In a surprising turn of events, a UK gang has created its crypto tokens to launder dirty money. This is by far one of the craziest pieces of news in the crypto community in 2025 and shows how street-level gangs are slowly evolving into something different.
Recently, a gang involved in the drug business created its very own crypto platform. This is easily the smartest yet dumbest crimes anybody has committed. However, this is not a new thing at all. For long, gangs and organized crime families have used tokens like BTC, ETH, and memecoins to launder their dirty money.
However, this bold move by a UK gang to create its crypto token for money laundering is one of the most blatant actions taken by anyone. According to Gary Carroll of Claymore Advisory Group, this has taken organized crime ‘one step further.’
Not The First
This is the first time something like this has happened in the UK. Previously, there was another similar case in which a German gang created a cryptocurrency token that turned out to be a glorified Ponzi scheme.
According to regulatory bodies, the gang intended to employ a pump-and-dump strategy. In other words, they would have utilized social media to amplify their memecoin and boost its market position. When enough people invest in the coin, they would sell off a portion of their holdings and hijack funds.
This strategy is often used in a rug-pull situation. A few days earlier, another token, MANTRA, also faced severe backlash, as its strategy closely resembled the one highlighted here.
