The crypto tribe in France is facing serious threats due to high crypto holdings. The interior minister, Bruno Retailleau, expressed concern about the increase in the rate of kidnappings targeting the people who hold prime positions in the French crypto scene.
The minister held an emergency meeting this Friday to discuss this concern in detail. The French cabinet is seriously considering options to curb the threat.
Of late, there was an attempt to kidnap the daughter and grandson of the Paymium CEO on Tuesday, in Paris. Notably, the security of the crypto personnel is becoming a prime concern for the country.
Initiatives Taken To Curb Violence?
The interior minister stated that he would be convening with the primary crypto players at the ministry. This decision came in after the desperate attempt to kidnap Pierre Noizat’s daughter. He is the CEO and co-founder of Paymium.
The attack happened in broad daylight on Tuesday. The location of the event was the 11th arrondissement of Paris. A group of masked men forced her and her partner. Their two-year-old son was with them.
Intrepid witnesses stalled the attack, though. Out of the blue, someone brandished a fire extinguisher to ward off the deadly attack and the kidnappers. Later, the kidnapping car was found abandoned in the locality.
As the entrepreneur’s statement goes:
“I will collect entrepreneurs in the French crypto community and work with them to fix the security.”
The Threat is Looming!
Since January 25, the kidnapping of crypto powerheads in France has increased manifold. According to Jameson Lopp, the security expert and Casa co-founder, there have been 22 such events in close succession, not only in France but worldwide.
The main objective behind the attacks is to secure their private keys (to their crypto wallets) through force or threat. In France, the danger is looming even more. According to David Balland, Ledger’s co-founder, he was freed from captivity by law enforcement after being held for several days at a stretch.
The Response Strategy
In response to this escalating situation, the meeting on Friday between Bruno and the crypto entrepreneurs was quite significant.
For the first time, the state is working closely with the country’s crypto tribe. The professionals hope that some structural measures will soon be implemented!
